General manager Ned Colletti said he was looking for a swing man to replace Paul Maholm, who is out for the year with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
Earlier in the week, the Dodgers acquired right-handed starter Roberto Hernandez from Philadelphia for two players to be named or cash. He replaced Josh Beckett, who is out indefinitely with a left hip impingement
"Kevin gives us an additional option as a starter or long reliever," said Colletti. "He also supplies us with more veteran pitching depth for the stretch drive."
Correia has had four seasons of double-digits wins and went to the All-Star Game in 2011 while with the Pirates.
He earns $5.5 million this year and will be eligible for free agency after this season.
With the loss of Maholm and Chris Perez (right ankle bone spurs), the Dodgers' bullpen currently includes rookies Carlos Frias and Pedro Baez.
