Worth noting

• Injured shortstop Chris Owings took batting practice for the first time Saturday. Previously, Owings had only hit off a tee or flips from coaches.

Owings' recovery from a left shoulder strain has taken longer than expected as he's been out since June 26.

"We're hoping he's over the hump," D-backs manager Kirk Gibson said. "If everything goes good, he'll hit live off Matt Reynolds on Friday."

Reynolds is rehabbing from Tommy John surgery.

• Outfielder A.J. Pollock (fractured hand) went 0-for-3 for Triple-A Reno on Friday night as he continued his rehab assignment.

"He's just trying to get his strength back in that hand," Gibson said. "He's got a lot of swelling in it, and he has to get that all out of there and get his strength in the hand back. That'll take some time."
