Cactus League records:
Cubs 11-8-1; Indians 12-5
Left-hander Jeremy Sowers, ostensibly still in the running for a spot in the Indians' rotation, will continue playing catchup with the other candidates on Tuesday when he starts against the Brewers in Goodyear Ballpark at 4:05 p.m. ET. Due to the carryover of a strained left shoulder into Spring Training, Sowers was limited to rehab work until finally making his first appearance last Thursday, when he allowed two runs in two innings against the Reds.
Ryan Dempster will make his fourth spring start on Tuesday when the Cubs travel to Surprise to face the Royals at 3:05 p.m. CT. The right-hander has given up two earned runs on five hits over nine innings this spring. The Cubs will be using the designated hitter and there's a chance Aramis Ramirez could get the at-bats. He's been sidelined with a sore right triceps.
