Top prospect Glasnow throws six scoreless innings

Pittsburgh Pirates No. 1 prospect Tyler Glasnow threw six scoreless innings on Thursday to lead Class A Advanced Bradenton to a 5-0 victory against Jupiter in Game 1 of a doubleheader. The Hammerheads came back to win Game 2, however, defeating the Marauders 9-6.

Glasnow, ranked No. 19 on MLBPipeline.com's Top 100 Prospects list, struck out 11 batters and held Jupiter to two hits and two walks. He threw 90 pitches to author his second consecutive start of six scoreless innings.

Glasnow began the game by issuing a leadoff walk to Justin Bohn. He then retired the next 11 batters he faced -- eight via strikeout. And thanks to catcher Jin-De Jhang picking Bohn off first base, Glasnow had faced the minimum through four innings.

Though Glasnow's no-hit bid ended with a leadoff single in the fifth, he did more than enough to pick up the victory and improve to 9-5 this season.

Glasnow got a late start to the season as he missed most of April due to a back injury he suffered during Spring Training. But once he got back on the mound, he has dominated hitters in the Florida State League. He leads the circuit with a 1.53 ERA and ranks second with 122 strikeouts in 100 innings.
