On Tuesday, April 6, the Angels will attempt to break the Guinness World Record set by the Cavaliers, the NBA franchise that had 17,758 fans wearing fleece blankets on March 5.
More than 40,000 fans are expected to attend the Angels game against the Twins and each in attendance will receive a complimentary Hideki Matsui "blankie" courtesy of Konica Minolta to set the record.
"We are very excited about this special opportunity," team spokesman Tim Mead said. "Setting this world record will be a unique and memorable experience for our fans, the first of many in 2010."
During the game, the anticipated sellout crowd of more than 40,000 will be asked to wear their red "blankies," featuring Matsui's name and number, for five consecutive minutes.
A Guinness World Records adjudicator will be on hand and will officially certify the new record. The Guiness World Records will also hold a short ceremony later in the game to recognize the record-breaking attempt.
