Blue Jays named finalist for 2014 Patterson Award

On Wednesday, May 21, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation announced that the Toronto Blue Jays have been selected as a finalist in the "Professional Sports Team" category for the 2014 Steve Patterson Award for Excellence in Sports Philanthropy. The winners will be announced on Sept. 18, 2014, at an exclusive event in Princeton, N.J., where RWJF will host award applicants, past winners and the review committee for a day of learning, networking and celebrating excellence in the field of sports philanthropy. While four Major League franchises have previously won the Patterson Award, The Toronto Blue Jays would be the first Canadian organization honored.

"As an organization, the Toronto Blue Jays have made a commitment to children, not only in the city of Toronto, but the entire country of Canada," said Danielle Bedasse, Jays Care Foundation executive director. "The Blue Jays are incredibly honored to be recognized as a finalist for the 2014 Steve Patterson Award and to be mentioned among previous years' winners, who have made tremendous achievements across North America."
