Ten players were ejected after the second of two bench-clearing incidents which occurred in Saturday's Pacific Coast League matchup between the Triple-A clubs of the Dodgers and D-backs when the Arizona affiliate, the Reno Aces, hosted Los Angeles affiliate, the Albuquerque Isotopes.
With Reno holding a 3-1 lead in the top of the second inning, tempers flared as Albuquerque third baseman Erisbel Arruebarrena took exception to a pitch that was high and inside from Reno right-hander Mike Bolsinger. Both clubs' benches and bullpens emptied in an incident of limited physical contact.
Arruebarrena then struck out and got into an altercation with Reno catcher Blake Lalli. Arruebarrena pushed Lalli, which led to another benches-clearing incident. This time, many punches were thrown by players from both clubs in an incident in foul territory between the third-base dugout and home plate. After the dust settled, Arruebarrena and Lalli were ejected, along with seven other players. Reno manager Phil Nevin was also tossed from the game.
Bolsinger settled in to strike out six over 5 2/3 innings of two-run ball on nine hits and earn his sixth victory of the year as Reno won the game, 7-3, in the second game of a four-game series.
