• Arismendy Alcantara and Emilio Bonifacio have been splitting time between second base and center field. How does Renteria decide who starts where?
"We already know Boni can play center," Renteria said. "Mendy's a guy who has only played 10 or 11 games in center field. This is where we'll find out what he needs to develop in that position. [Alcantara] looks really good out there, very fluid. I'm hoping the transition and the games he gets, he'll be able to go out there and gain more confidence because he's out there."
Alcantara has started eight games at second, and he made his fifth start in center on Saturday.
• Shortstop Addison Russell, acquired from the Athletics in the July 4 trade that sent Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel to Oakland, hit two home runs and drove in four runs for Double-A Tennessee on Friday. Russell now has six multihit games since joining the Smokies.
