PEORIA, Ariz. -- Chris Young and Kevin Correia will each pitch on Thursday at 12:05 p.m. PT, when the Padres play their charity game against the Seattle Mariners at the Peoria Sports Complex.
San Diego manager Bud Black said Monday morning that Young and Correia will each throw two innings in the annual game.
The Padres have devised their pitching plan to cover the first few days of Cactus League play.
Mat Latos, Wade LeBlanc and Sean Gallagher -- all candidates for the No. 5 spot in the starting rotation -- will throw on Friday against the Mariners in San Diego's first official Cactus League game.
On Saturday, in another game against Seattle, Jon Garland and Tim Stauffer will throw at the Peoria Sports Complex.
Finally, on Sunday against Seattle, Clayton Richard and Cesar Carrillo will pitch against the Mariners.
Starting pitchers, and those vying for spots in the rotation, will likely throw two innings their first time out, with their workload gradually increasing, in innings if not by pitch count, each time thereafter.
Black hasn't announced who will start for the Padres on Opening Day, April 5 against the D-backs. That determination, he said, will come later in camp.
