Worth noting

Jerry Sands underwent successful season-ending surgery to repair a torn sheath in his left wrist on Tuesday. Sands said on Friday that he was looking at four months of recovery time after the procedure.

"I'm not gonna push it -- it's already gonna be the offseason," Sands said. "If I'm sore or something like that, I can ease off it a little bit, and just get right for next year."

• Maddon said on Friday that rehabbing catcher Ryan Hanigan, who is on the disabled list with a left oblique strain, is close to being able to return, but doesn't yet have a specific date targeted. Hanigan did some catching and baserunning drills Friday afternoon and caught Jake Odorizzi's bullpen session.

• Maddon said injured outfielder David DeJesus is also making progress. DeJesus was placed on the disabled list June 19 with an avulsion fracture in his left hand.
