• Utility man Willie Bloomquist was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with a right knee contusion after he was injured trying to run out a ground ball in the eighth inning of Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Mets. Bloomquist was originally ruled safe on a bang-bang play at first base, but the call was overturned on an instant-replay review. The 36-year-old was batting .278 in 47 games before the injury.
• Brayan Hernandez, the No. 8-ranked international prospect by MLB.com, took batting practice at Safeco Field on Thursday. In early July, the Mariners agreed to terms with Hernandez, a 16-year-old outfielder from Puerto Cabello, Venezuela, for $1.85 million. However, the deal hasn't been finalized.
