Worth noting

• Marte became eligible to return following Friday's game -- the third he has missed, the minimum, on the bereavement list -- but the club hadn't yet connected with him, and he is unlikely to be back from the Dominican until after the All-Star break.

Vance Worley laughed off a remark made by Terry Ryan -- the Twins' general manager, who dealt him to the Pirates at the end of Spring Training -- to "see what he does over the course of starts. We'll talk about that in October."

"It just means I have to keep proving myself," said Worley, who has tendered four quality starts in his first five outings with the Bucs.

• Tony Sanchez, who had so many big hits as the Pirates' primary catcher earlier this season while Russell Martin sat out a month with a hamstring injury, endured a tough June in Indianapolis: Sanchez had five hits in his last 55 at-bats of the month and is hitting .203 overall with the Indians.

• Manager Clint Hurdle and staff have yet to hash out the starting rotation's look coming out of the All-Star break, but one certainty is that Gerrit Cole (sore lat), eligible to come off the DL on July 20, will not be part of it.
