• D-backs catcher Miguel Montero got a day off Tuesday. Montero came into Tuesday leading all catchers in innings caught with 705 2/3.

• Gibson was able to speak with GM Kevin Towers, who had surgery performed on his vocal chords Monday in New York.

• First baseman Paul Goldschmidt has 33 doubles, the most hit by a D-backs player before the All-Star break in franchise history. The previous mark of 32 was held by Luis Gonzalez in 2003.

Vidal Nuno became the 10th different pitcher to start a game for the D-backs this year. They used nine in 2012 and 2013.
