The stage is set as league captains Jose Bautista and Troy Tulowitzki finalized their five-man teams for the Gillette Home Run Derby, to be held Monday at Target Field in Minnesota, and you can get a simulated feel for what it will be like now that the popular MLB.com Home Run Derby Presented by Ford mobile game has been updated in time for All-Star Week.

Major League Baseball Advanced Media on Monday announced its most significant update to date for the game, which introduces the same look and feel of Target Field; the new authentic bracket format; a live Multiplayer Mode; and more interactive ways to earn in-game currencies, among other interactive features.

A free download from the Apple App Store or Google Play, MLB.com Home Run Derby now includes multiple ballparks, including a new high-definition re-creation of the Twins' ballpark. Fans also now can play in both single-player and multiplayer modes for a chance to capture the Home Run Derby title, reach the top of the worldwide leaderboards and earn valuable upgrades.

MLB.com Home Run Derby also includes higher-resolution players for all 32 participants from the 2010-13 Home Run Derby competitions. All 2014 Home Run Derby contenders have been added as well.

"For the first time ever, fans of the Home Run Derby will be able to 'enter' the Derby against competitors from around the world live for a chance to take the Home Run Derby crown," said Jamie Leece, MLBAM vice president of gaming. "Millions of games have been played so far since launch, and we couldn't be happier with the response we have been receiving. Everyone is talking about All-Star Week now, and this update means you can get involved right now."

MLB recently announced a major format change to next Monday's annual slugfest -- expanding the field from eight to 10 sluggers, reducing the number of outs per at-bat from 10 to seven and progressing with bracketed competition.

MLB.com Home Run Derby's new Multiplayer Mode lets you follow the new format by entering an authentic Home Run Derby tournament.

Arcade Mode lets you hit as many homers as possible before the clock runs out, reach big achievements and ballpark-specific challenges with new ways to earn virtual currency and get rewarded by hitting targets and special Gold and MLBuck baseballs.

Single Player Derby Mode is an option if you want to build up skills in an authentic Home Run Derby tournament against the AI. It now features faster gameplay and improved pitching/batting, and it adds slow-motion cameras, home run announcer "calls" and more new elements.

The 2014 Gillette Home Run Derby, which is part of Gatorade All-Star Workout Day, will be broadcast live on ESPN HD, ESPN Deportes, WatchESPN, ESPN Mobile TV, and ESPN Radio in the U.S. as well as ESPN International beginning at 8 p.m. ET on July 14. It also will be streamed live on MLB.com and via the MLB.com At Bat mobile app. For more information, please visit allstargame.com.
