Thousands of participants expected Sunday at Minnesota State Fairgrounds

Hall of Famers Juan Marichal and Dave Winfield, along with former Twins Scott Erickson and Doug Mientkiewicz, will be in attendance along with an expected field of thousands of runners at The Color Run MLB All-Star 5K presented by Nike on Sunday at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds.

Major League Baseball will make a contribution to three charities supporting cancer research and education -- Stand Up To Cancer, Prostate Cancer Foundation and Susan G. Komen -- and The Color Run will make a contribution to its charitable partner, Camp Kesem. Registrants will have the opportunity to make charitable donations at the completion of the registration process.

Kat Perkins, a Minneapolis-based singer and top-five contestant on "The Voice," will sing the Star Spangled Banner prior to the start of the event in Falcon Heights, Minn.

T.C. Bear of the Twins and eight other MLB mascots, along with Runicorn, The Color Run mascot, will cheer on participants as they start the race and will be available for photographs. Mascots scheduled to appear include Baxter (D-backs), The Oriole Bird, Billy Marlin, Pirate Parrot, Stomper (A's), Mariners Moose, the Swinging Friar (Padres) and Rangers Captain.

The start-line window will open at 8:30 a.m. CT with additional waves beginning every few minutes. Each registered participant will receive a commemorative T-shirt, headband, bracelet and shoulder bag. Registration and event information is available at AllStarGame.com/Run.

This will be the fourth All-Star 5K, following events in 2009 in St. Louis, 2010 in Anaheim, 2012 in Kansas City and last year in New York. There was no 5K in 2011 in Phoenix due to heat. This year's race on the Sunday of All-Star Week will be untimed, as it will be part of the worldwide series of Color Runs in which participants are doused in different colored powder at each kilometer.

Following the event, a festival including music, giveaways and contests will take place. The paint race, which is open to participants of all ages, is an entertainment experience for the whole family.

"The Color Run MLB All-Star 5K presented by Nike will give fans in the Twin Cities and across Minnesota a unique opportunity to participate in the All-Star festivities while raising awareness and money for the fight against cancer, a disease that has affected each of us," said Tim Brosnan, MLB executive vice president of business. "Previous All-Star races have been a fun experience for the participants, giving fans lasting All-Star memories. The partnership with The Color Run will only enhance the experience for our All-Star guests."

The Color Run MLB All-Star 5K promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime event for everyone."

To enhance the event for participants, MLB partners will be incorporated into the festivities including: Dodge ball with paint-dipped sponge balls and tire obstacles presented by Firestone; tee-ball on a field created by Scotts; color drumming in which participants place magenta powder on drums for a photo opportunity with flying color sponsored by T-Mobile; post-race snacks contributed by Kellogg's; hydration throughout the event furnished by Gatorade and Aquafina; and a Slip 'n' Slide with colored water that ends in colored splash pools presented by MLB and MTV2's "Off the Bat" weekly show. MLB national sponsor Gillette also will provide support.

MLB.com will provide extensive online coverage of All-Star Week festivities.

The 85th All-Star Game will be televised nationally by FOX, in Canada by Rogers Sportsnet and RDS, and worldwide by partners in more than 200 countries via MLB International's independent feed. ESPN Radio and ESPN Radio Deportes will provide national radio coverage of the All-Star Game. MLB Network and SiriusXM will also provide comprehensive All-Star Week coverage.
