Owings scratched from lineup with ailing shoulder

SAN DIEGO -- D-backs shortstop Chris Owings was scratched from the starting lineup Friday as a precautionary measure due to a lingering issue with his left shoulder.

Owings initially jammed the shoulder last Friday on a play at home plate and he did not return to the lineup until Wednesday.

"Just thought it would be smarter to get him out of there and let him be able to work at his own pace and not force him into the game tonight," D-backs manager Kirk Gibson said. "I'm hoping and think that he'll probably be ready to go tomorrow."

Didi Gregorius got the start at shortstop in place of Owings.
