Yohan Pino was recalled to take Santana's roster spot. Pino is 0-1 with a 6.30 ERA and is expected to get the start Monday, once the Twins go back to Minneapolis. Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said that Santana has been very sore as of late and that it wasn't worth taking a chance on having him continue to play through such pain.
"The speed and his legs, that's a big part of his makeup," Gardenhire said. "We're not going to mess with his legs, so we're just giving him time to heal here."
Dozier was considered for the leadoff spot earlier in the season, and has taken over the duties since Santana has been sidelined.
Gardenhire said he has no concerns about how his second baseman will handle it Friday. Kurt Suzuki will move up to bat second in the order.
"Dozier's going to have his at-bats, he's going to swing. He's one of our better on-base guys and hitting guys, and all those things. I'm not worried about him," Gardenhire said. "Suzuki loves the two-hole. Put some of those guys together that all have good on-base percentages and all seem to handle the bat well, and we'll see what happens."
