Bombers bits

Brian McCann got the day off on Wednesday as the Yankees wrapped their series against the Blue Jays.

The Yankees' everyday catcher was in need of a rest, said manager Joe Girardi.

"We've played Mac a lot, and [with the day off Thursday], I can get him two days in a row, and should be able to play him over the weekend [vs. Boston]," he said. "Sometimes you look at the types of games, how physical the games have been -- and they've been hard these last three -- and I think it's probably a good time."

Francisco Cervelli was behind the plate instead, and hit in the No. 9 spot.

• The Yankees have been streaky throughout the month of June. After their loss to the Blue Jays on Tuesday, the Bronx Bombers had dropped four in a row after riding a four-game win streak. They've now had two four-game win streaks and two four-game losing streaks this month.

"It's frustrating, especially with the teams we're losing to. You're behind both of them. We got an emotional win on Friday, and then we come out and struggle Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday," said Girardi. "There's not much we can do about it now, we just have to be more consistent."
