Renfroe, Guerrero named to Futures Game rosters

Two Padres were named to rosters for the 2014 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game on Tuesday, with outfielder Hunter Renfroe being selected to the U.S. Team and pitcher Tayron Guerrero chosen for the World Team.

Renfroe was leading the California League in home runs (16) for Class A Advanced Lake Elsinore this season and was named to the California League's Mid-Season All-Star Team before he was promoted to Double-A San Antonio last week.

"I think he's definitely gonna play in the big leagues for a long time," said Lake Elsinore hitting coach Jody Davis, a former big league catcher. "San Diego needs the offense. They're not scoring a lot of runs. And he can definitely produce runs."

Renfroe, a 2013 first-round pick, homered in his second game with the Missions and has a combined slash line of .284/.360/.547 with both teams in 2014.

"I'm just seeing the ball a lot better," Renfroe said. "The balls are coming easy to me now since the first part of the year, when I kind of struggled a little and was striking out a good bit."

Guerrero, one of two Colombians selected to the World Team, starred out of Fort Wayne's (Class A) bullpen in the first half this season before he was also promoted last week to Lake Elsinore.

Guerrero, who signed with the Padres as a non-drafted free agent in December 2009, has racked up 44 strikeouts in 37 2/3 innings (27 games) this year to go along with his 6-1 record and 0.96 ERA. He was selected to the Midwest League's Mid-Season All-Star squad before his promotion.
