Phillies top Draft pick Aaron Nola has been assigned to Class A Advanced Clearwater, and the right-hander is scheduled to make his professional debut on Monday night.
Nola was selected out of Louisiana State University with the seventh overall pick of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft. On Monday, he's slated to pitch in Lakeland, Fla., against the Flying Tigers before making his Bright House Field debut on Saturday against the Brevard County Manatees.
In 16 starts spanning 116 1/3 innings this season at LSU, the 21-year-old Nola went 11-1 with a 1.47 ERA and 134 strikeouts. He struck out 345 batters over three years of college ball and posted a record of 30-6 with a 2.09 ERA in that span.
Nola was named the SEC Pitcher of the Year twice, and he was one of three finalists for the Golden Spikes Award, which is handed out each season to the top college baseball player in the country.
