Norris out of A's lineup with bruised forearm

OAKLAND -- Two-thirds of the A's catching triumvirate was in Saturday's starting lineup, but it didn't include starting catcher Derek Norris.

Norris, who suffered a bruised left forearm on a foul-tip and exited after six innings in Friday night's 4-3 win over the Red Sox, did not start Saturday but could "potentially be available off of the bench," manager Bob Melvin said.

Norris' bat would be missed as much as his glove. He is 7-for-20 with five extra-base hits, including two home runs, and eight RBIs over his past six games and is hitting .301 overall.

Norris' fellow backtops were ready to meet Boston starting pitcher Rubby De La Rosa and his lineup. Stephen Vogt, slated to play right field again, was taping his black bat in the clubhouse, while John Jaso, who started behind the plate, was going over one final scouting report with pitching coach Curt Young and starter Jesse Chavez.
