MLB Joins the Prostate Cancer Foundation in Raising Prostate Cancer Awareness

As Father's Day weekend approaches, Major League Baseball is teaming up with the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) for baseball's annual effort to raise awareness about prostate cancer and raise funds for research to fight the disease. On Father's Day, MLB players, managers, coaches, trainers, umpires and groundskeepers will wear blue wristbands and blue ribbon uniform decals. Additionally, Clubs will host pre-game ceremonies and use a special blue MLB Father's Day line-up card. Major League Baseball Charities has committed $50,000 to PCF as part of this effort.

On Father's Day, MLB.com, MLB Fan Cave, all 30 Clubs and broadcast partners will express their gratitude by sharing their favorite baseball moments of Dad on social media using #MLBThanksDad, and fans are encouraged to do the same. Additionally, photos shared using #MLBThanksDad will be curated on MLB.com/FathersDay, which will also include links to father-son baseball highlights and the PCF website.

This year's efforts will also include the 19th annual Prostate Cancer Foundation "Home Run Challenge," which gives fans the chance to make a monetary pledge for each home run hit during all scheduled MLB games from Monday, June 9th through Father's Day, June 15th. So far, baseball fans, MLB Clubs and PCF donors have collectively pledged more than $6,000 per home run hit beginning June 9th. Based on previous year's home run totals, more than $1,000,000 is expected to be raised. The "Home Run Challenge" is a joint initiative between Major League Baseball, the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) and the Prostate Cancer Foundation. Since its inception, the initiative has raised more than $45 million for PCF, the world's leading philanthropic organization funding and accelerating prostate cancer research. Founded in 1993, PCF has raised more than $575 million and provided funding to more than 2,000 research projects at nearly 200 institutions in 18 countries around the world. For more information about PCF, please visit MLBCommunity.org or PCF.org.
