Lake County INF Claudio Bautista earns minor league player of the week honors

CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Indians today announced that Single-A Lake County INF CLAUDIO BAUTISTA has been named Indians Minor League Player of the Week for June 2-8. The Indians Player of the Week Award recognizes an individual performance from within the Indians Player Development System and is announced each Tuesday through the end of the Minor League season.

Bautista, 20, hit .381 (8-21) with 2 doubles, 3 home runs, 5 RBI and a 1.296 OPS (.391 OBP/.905 SLG) in 6 games for the Captains this week. The 5-foot-10, 170-pound infielder recorded 3 multi-hit efforts during the week, including his first career 2-homer game in a 6-3 Captains win on Monday at Great Lakes. Bautista is batting .282 over his last 10 games, going 11-39 with 4 home runs, 7 RBI and 6 runs scored over that stretch. On the season, the right-handed hitting and throwing second baseman ranks second on the Captains with 52 hits, and owns 10 doubles, 3 triples, 6 home runs and 25 RBI.

A native of Nizao, Dominican Republic, Bautista originally signed with the Tribe as a non-drafted free agent on May 18, 2011. He entered the 2014 season a career .252 (137-544) batter across 3 short-season campaigns in the Indians organization. In his first year with a full-season squad, Bautista has already matched career-highs with 6 home runs and 25 RBI.
