Manager Ned Yost challenged umpire Dale Scott's out call at first base, but a review in New York concluded that the call stands.
"It was a perfect time to challenge," Yost said. "It was a bang-bang play. I didn't know if we could get it overturned, but you don't lose anything there. It's the seventh inning, it was so close that maybe they reverse it and you catch lightning in a bottle, and you've got first and third and two outs and maybe something happening. If you don't, you've still got your request challenges from that point on."
That made the Royals 8-6 in the review procedure instituted this year.
