A search and rescue team found the body of James Wernke, who disappeared over the weekend, at about 10 a.m. P.T. in what was described as a "steep, rain-swollen creek" near where he was last seen walking his girlfriend's dog, Fullerton, Cal., police Lt. Alex Bastreri told the AP, adding that rescuers assume Wernke fell into the creek bed.
There were no immediate signs of trauma, the AP added.
Wernke, 21, disappeared Saturday while walking a yellow Labrador retriever that remains missing. A nursing major at Santa Ana College, Wernke had just landed a baseball scholarship at Cal State Long Beach.
Wernke, a left-handed pitcher, was drafted by the Athletics out of high school in the 41st round but chose to go to college instead.
