Prospect Berrios throws gem in Class A game

MILWAUKEE -- Jose Berrios, ranked by MLB.com as the No. 5 prospect in the Minnesota Twins organization, threw a complete-game one-hitter in a seven-inning ballgame for the Class A Fort Myers Miracle on Sunday.

In the first game of a doubleheader against the Tampa Yankees, Berrios did not walk a batter and struck out 13. He did hit a batter and faced just two over the sterling performance, leading his team to a 3-0 victory. His performance garnered him the Pipeline Prospect of the Week award.

Berrios, who turned 20 years old last Tuesday, now has a 2.24 ERA. He has allowed just three earned runs in his last five outings, covering 31 1/3 innings. He owns a 5-2 record for the year and 65 strikeouts to 17 walks in 56 1/3 innings.

At Triple-A Rochester, right-handed pitcher Trevor May was named the International League Pitcher of the Week (May 26 to June 1) after a pair of strong starts. Over his last four starts, May is 4-0 and has not allowed an earned run, a 26-inning scoreless streak that has dropped his ERA from 4.97 to 2.62. He's allowed just one unearned run with 11 walks and 19 strikeouts in the stretch.
