Donate to Junior Giants Glove Drive on Sunday, May 18

SAN FRANCISCO -- The 20th anniversary season of Junior Giants baseball will begin this summer in more than 200 cities and communities throughout northern California, into Oregon and Nevada. Fans are invited to support the 21,000 kids who play in one of the 90 leagues by donating to the Junior Giants Glove Drive on Sunday, May 18, at AT&T Park when the Giants face the Miami Marlins at 1:05 p.m.

Fans who donate a new or gently used baseball glove or make a $10 donation to Giants Community Fund will receive a Tim Lincecum No-Hitter pin or a Giants Patriotic pin. Volunteers will be at all AT&T Park gates collecting donations prior to game and inside the ballpark at the Community Clubhouse on the Promenade Level. Fans can also donate online through In 2013, the Junior Giants Glove Drive raised $34,339 and more than 800 gloves were collected which ensured that every child in the program had a glove of his or her own.

Junior Giants, presented by Bank of America, is the flagship program of the Giants Community Fund. The Giants Community Fund hosts the Glove Drive to directly benefit the Junior Giants by providing needed equipment to enable children throughout northern California, Oregon and Nevada to play ball during the summer months. Of the 21,000 participating in Junior Giants, more than 10,000 of these youth do not have their own glove. Eighty percent of players who participate in this free, non-competitive baseball program come from low to moderate income level households.

This year marks the tenth season that Major League Baseball's Baseball Tomorrow Fund has teamed with Major League Baseball Clubs to supplement their existing equipment collection programs and to help facilitate the creation of new programs. In conjunction with the Junior Giants Glove Drive, the Baseball Tomorrow Fund will award a $5,000 grant to the Hayward Junior Giants to enable the city to purchase new equipment for its Junior Giants league.

Junior Giants uses baseball as a forum to teach kids about confidence, integrity, leadership and teamwork, enabling them to make informed and productive decisions within their lives. There are more than 3,000 volunteer coaches and commissioners who work to ensure that kids in their communities have the opportunity to play baseball.
