NEW YORK -- Alfonso Soriano logged his 1,000th American League hit on Monday, becoming the seventh player in Major League history to collect 1,000 hits in both leagues.

The Yankees outfielder stroked a second-inning single to center field off the Mets' Bartolo Colon for the milestone.

With the hit, Soriano joined a select group that includes Hall of Famers Frank Robinson and Dave Winfield, as well as Vladimir Guerrero, Fred McGriff, Orlando Cabrera and Carlos Lee.

Soriano, who has 1,077 career hits in the National League, is also the first player to record 1,000 hits, 500 runs scored, 500 RBIs, 100 home runs and 100 stolen bases in each league.

The veteran started his career with the Yankees in 1999 and has logged 660 of those 1,000 hits over two stints in pinstripes. Soriano has also logged AL hits with the Rangers (341), collecting his NL hits with the Cubs (898) and Nationals (179).
