BALTIMORE -- The Orioles moved to 2-0 on their manager-challenged plays this season, with Buck Showalter getting a hit-by-pitch call overturned in the second inning of Thursday afternoon's twin bill opener against the Pirates.

With the game scoreless, Showalter came out after O's starter Bud Norris' 2-1 pitch to Tony Sanchez was ruled to have hit the batter, who was awarded first base. After a review that took 3 minutes and 29 seconds, the call was overturned and changed to a foul ball, because it hit the end of the bat. Norris then got Sanchez to line out to third base.

Jordy Mercer, the next hitter, grounded out to end the Pirates' second.

The O's only other challenge this season was on April 19 at Fenway Park. After Nelson Cruz was originally called out at first in the sixth inning, the umpires overturned the call following a replay review, which meant instead of making the third out, Cruz had an RBI single and the game against the Red Sox was tied at 2. Baltimore lost the game, 4-2.
