Discipline has been issued to four players who were involved in the on-field altercation between the Milwaukee Brewers and the Pittsburgh Pirates in the top of the third inning of Sunday's game at Pittsburgh's PNC Park, Major League Baseball announced today. The players have been suspended for their aggressive actions during the bench-clearing incident. Joe Garagiola, Jr., Senior Vice President of Standards & On-Field Operations for Major League Baseball, made the announcement.
- Brewers catcher Martin Maldonado has received a five-game suspension;
- Brewers outfielder Carlos Gomez has received a three-game suspension;
- Pirates outfielder Travis Snider has received a two-game suspension;
- Pirates catcher Russell Martin has received a one-game suspension.
All four players also have received undisclosed fines for their roles in the incident.
Unless appealed, the suspensions of the four players are scheduled to be effective this evening, when the Pirates are to host the Cincinnati Reds and the Brewers are to host the San Diego Padres. If a player chooses to appeal, then his suspension will be held in abeyance until the process is complete.
