"It was just kind of nagging a little bit for him," said manager Bob Melvin. "So we felt like the timing of this, giving him a shot yesterday, today off and tomorrow off, we can see where we are Wednesday.
"He actually had a little bit of it last year, and just something we wanted to take care of."
The 34-year-old Crisp, who also relied on a cortisone shot to abate the issue last year, has reached base safely in each of his five games to start the season, his fifth with the A's.
Sam Fuld got the start in center in Crisp's absence on Monday. Fuld entered the day 4-for-13 with a pair of RBIs.
