Chipper may miss a few more

ATLANTA -- The Braves managed to win a pair of games without Chipper Jones in their lineup this past weekend in St. Louis, and as they attempt to build an extended winning streak, they may spend at least a few more days without their veteran third baseman.

Jones missed Tuesday night's series opener against the Mets with the strained left groin that he suffered during the ninth inning of Saturday's win over the Cardinals. While running with approximately 50-60 percent effort on Tuesday afternoon, he still felt some discomfort.

"When I can get it to 75-80 percent and just kind of temper it, I'll get back in there," Jones said.

Entering Tuesday, the Braves had won 13 of the previous 22 games that Jones wasn't in their starting lineup.

Jones said that he remains hopeful that he'll be able to return to the Braves' lineup within the next few days. The Phillies will come to Turner Field for a three-game series that begins on Friday.
