Tribe sends Stubbs to Rox for Outman

|

The Rockies acquired outfielder Drew Stubbs from the Indians for left-hander Josh Outman on Wednesday.

Stubbs, a right-handed batter, is a career .233 hitter who has fared better against left-handed pitchers (.266/.361/.357) than righties (.216/.275/.362) over his five-year career. He has speed and power -- stealing a career-high 40 bases in 2011 -- while reaching double figures in home runs each of the past four years, including a career-high 22 in '10. He's also prone to high-strikeout totals, fanning 205 times in '11 to lead the Majors.

A first-round pick (eighth overall) in 2006, Stubbs joined the Tribe as part of the Shin-Soo Choo trade last December. He hit .233 with 10 homers and 17 steals last year with Cleveland after spending his first four big league seasons with the Reds.

Outman, 29, went 3-0 with 4.33 ERA out of the Rockies' bullpen this past season, appearing in 61 games. The southpaw fanned 53 over 54 innings, but also walked 23 as part of a 1.463 WHIP. He dominated left-handed hitters in 2013, holding them to a .198 batting average against.

For his career, Outman is 12-11 with a 4.61 ERA in 121 appearances (32 starts) over parts of five seasons with the A's and Rockies.
