Nine Million Viewers Tune In

|

The Cardinals and Red Sox had identical 97-65 records this season to top their respective leagues, and now will meet in the 2013 World Series to determine the best team in baseball, with Game 1 scheduled for Wednesday at 8:00pm ET on FOX. The matchup will be the fourth between the Clubs, with the Cardinals winning tense seven game series in 1946 and 1967 before being swept by the Red Sox in the historic 2004 Fall Classic.

The exciting matchup will carry the momentum of a very compelling Postseason, as TV viewership increased for every round of the Postseason compared to last year. Overall, the Postseason to date has averaged 4.7 million viewers across FOX, TBS and MLB Network, an increase of +7% through the end of last year's LCS.

That audience was capped by last night's clinching win by the Red Sox in Game 6 of the ALCS, which drew 9.0 million viewers, making it the most-watched LCS game since Game 6 of the 2010 NLCS between the Giants and Phillies. The game led FOX to a victory in primetime against all competition, with the highest rated Saturday night for FOX since January.

Game 6 drew a 31.9 local rating in Boston, which makes it the highest rated Red Sox game since Game 7 of the 2008 ALCS. In Detroit, the game drew a 27.5. Detroit finished the series with an average 30.2 rating, making this the second highest rated LCS ever in Detroit, behind only 2006.

Game 1 of the World Series is set for Wednesday, October 23 in Boston. Coverage begins on FOX at 7:30pm ET.
