Major League Baseball today announced the umpires who have been assigned to tonight's American League Tiebreaker Game on TBS and the Postseason games through the Division Series. Tim Welke will be the crew chief for Tiebreaker Game between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Texas Rangers at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, while regular season crew chief Jeff Kellogg will be behind the plate. Welke and Kellogg will be joined by Bruce Dreckman, Chris Guccione, regular season crew chief Tom Hallion and Ron Kulpa.
The Wild Card Game crew chiefs will be Joe West and Gerry Davis, both of whom will handle home plate duties, while the Division Series crew chiefs will be Gary Darling, Dana DeMuth, John Hirschbeck and Jerry Layne.
West, who leads all active Major League Umpires with 36 years of service, will work Tuesday's National League Wild Card Game presented by Budweiser between the host Pittsburgh Pirates and the Cincinnati Reds. West's crew will include regular season crew chief Dale Scott, Dan Iassogna, Rob Drake, Tim Timmons and Lance Barksdale.
Davis, the 30-year veteran who has worked the most Postseason games (115) in Major League history, will call balls and strikes in Wednesday's American League Wild Card Game presented by Budweiser. Davis will lead a crew that features regular season crew chief Ted Barrett, Mike Everitt, Greg Gibson, Phil Cuzzi and Brian Knight.
The National League Division Series are scheduled to begin on Thursday, October 3rd. Layne's crew, which includes Wally Bell, Sam Holbrook, regular season crew chief Jim Joyce, Paul Nauert and Tony Randazzo, will go to St. Louis. Hirschbeck's crew is assigned to the Los Angeles Dodgers-Atlanta Braves NLDS and is comprised of Laz Diaz, Marvin Hudson, Bill Miller, regular season crew chief Tim Welke and Hunter Wendelstedt.
The American League Division Series are scheduled to begin on Friday, October 4th. The crew chief of the ALDS featuring the Boston Red Sox and the A.L. Wild Card Game winner will be DeMuth, who will work with Eric Cooper, Paul Emmel, Chris Guccione, Larry Vanover and regular season crew chief Mike Winters. The crew chief of the ALDS between the Oakland Athletics and the Detroit Tigers will be Gary Darling, who will be on the field with CB Bucknor, Mike DiMuro, regular season crew chief Tom Hallion, Jim Reynolds and Mark Wegner.
TBS will air up to 18 of the potential Division Series games, while MLB Network will air a Division Series game on Friday, October 4th and Monday, October 7th. ESPN Radio will provide live national coverage of all 2013 MLB Postseason games, including the Wild Card Games.
