Dominant Street earns NL Weekly honors

After locking down four saves in four opportunities, Padres closer Huston Street was named the National League Player of the Week.

In five games, Street had a 1-0 record and a 1.80 ERA, allowing one earned run in five innings. It continues a strong run of recent success that has seen Street go 14-for-14 in save opportunities over his past 23 appearances. In that span, he's allowed just one earned run in 23 1/3 innings, while striking out 22 and limiting opposing hitters to a .130 (10-for-77) average.

This was Street's second career weekly award; he also won for June 8-14, 2009, when he was with the Rockies. Street is the second Padres player to earn the honor this season, joining Will Venable (August 12-18).

Street is 2-4 with 29 saves in 30 opportunities this season, and he owns a 2.72 ERA in 50 relief appearances. He threw 20 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings from June 26-Sept. 3, the longest streak by a Padres player this season.

Street's .963 save percentage (52-for-54) over the past two seasons is the best in the Majors.
