CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Indians today announced Single-A Carolina RHP CODY ANDERSON has been named the Indians Minor League Player of the Week for August 5-12.
Anderson, 22, took the hill for Carolina on Friday, August 9 and guided the Mudcats to a 12-1 victory over the Frederick Keys. In arguably his most effective start of the season, Anderson matched his season-high with 7.0 innings, while striking out 5 and issuing just one walk. Opposing batters were 3-22 at the plate off the right-hander, including 0-2 with RISP, as the Keys never got a base runner past second.
On the season, Anderson has gone 9-4 with a Carolina League-best 2.34 ERA (32 ER/123.1 IP) with 112 strikeouts as opposed to just 31 walks in 23 starts for the Mudcats. His 112 punchouts trail only Danny Salazar (129) and T.J. House (114) for tops in the entire Indians Farm System. He has held opposing batters to a .236 average against (105-445), including a .230 clip (66-287) against right-handed hitters.
Anderson has gone 3-1 with a 1.88 ERA through 9 starts in the second “half” of the season and is set to be promoted to the Akron Aeros to make his Double-A debut in his next start.
