• Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said that closer Glen Perkins and reliever Casey Fien were both unavailable for Wednesday's game against the Angels. Perkins picked up his first four-out save in Monday's 4-3 win before blowing just his third save of the year in Tuesday's eventual 10-3 victory. Jared Burton was slated to serve as closer in Perkins' absence.

• After giving shortstop Pedro Florimon the day off on Monday and third baseman Trevor Plouffe a breather on Tuesday, Gardenhire opted to rest second baseman Brian Dozier on Wednesday. Doug Bernier made the start at second base in Dozier's absence.

"We're just trying to use everybody and mix them up," Gardenhire said. "We've given Florimon a day, Plouffe a day and now Dozier, and Justin Morneau DHing. Those infielders take a beating out there."

• Twins assistant general manager Rob Antony clarified why Triple-A Rochester outfielder Oswaldo Arcia left Tuesday's game in the third inning. There was speculation he was the one getting called up to take Joe Mauer's place on the roster, but he was pulled from the game after striking out in his first at-bat by manager Gene Glynn. It was reported that Arcia was experiencing dizziness, but he's healthy and was taken out at Glynn's discretion, as he swung at a 3-0 pitch and ended up striking out.
