Greene feeling fine after injury scare

Greene feeling fine after injury scare

|
KANSAS CITY -- The Cardinals' Khalil Greene said he'd be fine and should be available on Saturday after leaving Friday night's game against the Royals with a contusion on his left foot.

Greene fouled a ball off his foot during an at-bat in the fifth inning.

"It's fine," Greene said on Friday. "It was sore at first. I'd actually broken that toe a few years ago, so it's one of those things. But it's fine. I should be good to go tomorrow.

Greene was making his first start since returning from the 15-day disabled list on Thursday.

He had one at-bat against Detroit on Thursday.

Greene doubled to left in the second inning in his first at-bat and homered to deep left in the third. Greene drew a walk after fouling the ball off his foot in the fifth and was replaced at third base by Joe Thurston in the bottom of the inning.

Greene was making his first Major League start at third base and hadn't played at all since May 27 at Milwaukee.

He said he felt comfortable at third base for the four innings he spent there.

Cardinals manager Tony La Russa also said he thought Greene would be able to play on Saturday.
