Worth noting

• Like Ventura had hinted, Sunday's lineup looked different. Center fielder Jordan Danks is batting seventh, with Paul Konerko (strained neck) and Alex Rios (planned day off) out, Conor Gillaspie is batting third for the first time this season; and Dayan Viciedo is batting cleanup for just the second time.

"It's one of those where you change it out, get some energy in there, see what happens," Ventura said.

• Ventura and bench coach Mark Parent will each miss two games in next week's home series against Oakland to attend family graduation ceremonies. Ventura is out Thursday and Friday, while Parent is out Friday and Saturday. Parent will manage Thursday, and pitching coach Don Cooper will manage Friday.

"I think everyone will enjoy it," Ventura said. "I knew this was coming. [General manager Rick Hahn] knew this was coming. Hopefully it goes well, and I'm not worried about it being in their hands."
