Rangers RHP Alexi Ogando joins Double-A Frisco

Arlington, Texas - The Texas Rangers announced today that the club has sent right-handed pitcher Alexi Ogando on an injury rehabilitation assignment with Double-A Frisco. He is scheduled to start tonight in Frisco against Tulsa.

Additionally, right-handed pitcher Roman Mendez had surgery today for a stress fracture in his right elbow. The surgery was performed by Rangers Team Physician Dr. Keith Meister at the Medical Center of Arlington. The club has also reinstated infielder Mike Olt from the Round Rock (AAA) disabled list and transferred him to Frisco (AA).

Ogando was placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 16 with right triceps tendinitis. He earned the win in his last outing with Texas on May 15 at Oakland, and is eligible to be reinstated from the disabled list at any point, beginning today. He has gone 4-2 with a 3.08 ERA in 9 games/starts for the Rangers in 2013.

Mendez, 22, has been placed on the Frisco disabled list. He is on the Rangers' 40-man roster, but has yet to appear in the majors in his career. His surgery today is the same as a surgery he had in November 2012. He has spent this season with Frisco, going 2-0 with a 1.82 ERA (5 ER/24.2 IP) in 16 relief appearances.

Olt was placed on the Round Rock disabled list on May 8. He has played 20 games this season for the Express.
