Pete Rose said Wednesday that Alex Rodriguez should eventually make it into the Hall of Fame.
Rose, Major League Baseball's all-time hits leader who was banned from the game in 1989 for betting baseball, spoke in a radio interview with sportscaster Dan Patrick and said he was willing to forgive the fact that Rodriguez admittedly used steroids, according to a report in the New York Daily News.
"I'm willing to give a guy a second chance," said Rose, who added that he thinks steroid use is a more egregious wrongdoing than being a manager and wagering on his own team "because [steroid use] can have a direct impact on the outcome of a game," the News wrote.
"That's integrity of the game," Rose told Patrick.
"Would I vote for A-Rod right now based on his record?" Rose said. "Right now, I would."
