Sometimes a ball player comes along and shocks the sporting world with their talent. Not because they were so good, but because nobody expected them to be good. Such is not the case with Sanford Koufax.
As detailed in his scouting report, he was pretty much predicted to be the dominant left hander that he turned out to be. Garnering all aces in each rating category, Sandy would exceed all expectations and go on to become one of the best pitchers in history. If you look closely, you can see that the scout noted that Sandy averaged a phenomenal 16 strikeouts per game, but that isn’t the most interesting part of this document. Koufax was also noted as a first baseman with superior hitting ability. A pitcher who can hit is rare enough but a hall of fame pitcher who can hit like a first baseman? Well, that just screams Dodger Blue.
