Rangers pitcher Justin Grimm started the season in the Minor Leagues, but that didn't stop him from being voted the American League Rookie of the Month for April.

The right-hander made the most of his three April starts after the Rangers recalled him from Triple-A Round Rock to replace the injured Matt Harrison in their rotation. Grimm, who makes his fourth start on Thursday night against the White Sox, is 2-0 with a 1.59 ERA, 15 strikeouts and four walks in 17 innings.

This is the second straight April in which a Rangers pitcher has taken the honor, after Yu Darvish did so last year. Grimm beat out a group including teammate Nick Tepesch, who is 2-1 with a 2.53 ERA in the month.

The 24-year-old has not allowed more than two runs in any outing. He has held opponents to a .239 batting average, including 1-for-19 with runners in scoring position.

Grimm, the Rangers' fifth-round pick in the 2010 First-Year Player Draft, picked up his first win of the season on April 21 against the Mariners. He limited Seattle to one earned run over six innings, striking out nine. The University of Georgia product followed up that performance with seven scoreless innings against the Twins on Friday.
