Cubs-Rangers game at Wrigley postponed by rain

No makeup date announced; Thursday's matinee may also be washed out

|

CHICAGO -- Wednesday night's Cubs game against the Rangers at Wrigley Field was postponed at about 5 p.m. CT because of the "forecast of rain throughout the remainder of the evening."

A makeup date has yet to be established. The Cubs and Rangers are scheduled to play the third game of the series on Thursday at 1:20 p.m. CT at Wrigley. It is Texas' only trip to Wrigley this season.

The forecast for Thursday calls for a 100 percent chance of rain, with strong storms and wind and a high of 67 degrees.

Chicago's rotation will stay in line, with Wednesday starter Carlos Villanueva scheduled to go Thursday against Texas righty Alexi Ogando. Villanueva will be followed by Jeff Samardzija, Edwin Jackson and Scott Feldman this weekend against the Brewers in Milwaukee.

Because it's the Rangers' only visit to Wrigley, the decision was in the hands of Major League Baseball. The two days that are being discussed as makeup dates are May 6 and May 9. Both teams are off those days and the Rangers play a two-game series with the Brewers on May 7-8 in Milwaukee.

Fans are encouraged to retain their tickets from Wednesday's postponed game to use for the makeup date.

It is the Cubs' second rainout of the year, after a meeting with the Brewers on April 10 was rained out and rescheduled for July 30 at 1:20 p.m. CT.
