INDIAN WELLS, Calif. -- Ray Burris will be the new pitching coach at Triple-A Lehigh Valley and short-season Class A Williamsport manager Andy Tracy has been elevated to Minor League hitting coordinator, Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro said on Thursday.
"We're very pleased. We had a couple really good candidates for the pitching coach job," Amaro said during the General Managers Meetings at the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells. "We're happy with how we've been able to fill those spots."
Burris, 62, won 108 games in a 15-year Major League career with the Cubs, Yankees, Mets, Expos, Athletics, Brewers and Cardinals. He spent last season as the pitching coach for the Erie SeaWolves, the Tigers' Double-A Eastern League affiliate.
Tracy, 38, was in his first year as a Minor League manager after his retiring as a player.
"It's a pretty big step, but [player development director] Joe Jordan was real adamant about his ability to grow in that spot. He pushed him pretty hard," Amaro said.
