Giants tab Bumgarner for Game 1 of NLCS
Madison Bumgarner will start Game 1 of the National League Championship Series, and Ryan Vogelsong will take the mound in Game 2 for the Giants, the team announced on Saturday.

Both games will be played at AT&T Park, where the Giants will host the Cardinals on Sunday and Monday at 8 p.m. ET on FOX. St. Louis previously announced it would go with Lance Lynn in Game 1.

San Francisco started ace right-hander Matt Cain twice in the NL Division Series against the Reds, including in Thursday's decisive Game 5 victory. That leaves Bumgarner to get the opening assignment in the best-of-seven clash with the Cardinals.

The left-hander took the loss in Game 2 of the NLDS, giving up four earned runs on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings, with one walk and four strikeouts. The 23-year-old went 16-11 with a 3.37 ERA in 32 regular season starts, although he posted a 4.84 mark over his final eight outings.

Vogelsong struggled through a 10.31 ERA during a rough seven-start stretch in August and September, but recovered with three strong efforts to close the regular season. He carried that into Game 3 of the NLDS, holding the Reds to one run on three hits in five innings, getting a no-decision in the Giants' season-preserving 2-1 victory.

Vogelsong threw seven shutout innings against the Cardinals on Aug. 8 in St. Louis, while Bumgarner gave up seven runs over 13 1/3 innings in his two matchups with the Redbirds.
