Arroyo became the seventh Reds starter to throw seven innings of shutout baseball in a postseason game. His one hit allowed is the fewest in those outings. The previous low in those situations was three hits, accomplished by three different pitchers. The last time a Reds starter took a no-hitter 4 1/3 innings into a postseason game was Game 6 of the 1990 NLCS against the Pirates. Cincinnati pitcher Danny Jackson had a no-hitter until a one-out double in the fifth inning. He went on to throw six innings, allowing one run on one hit and four walks. He earned a no-decision in the Reds' series-clinching 2-1 victory at Riverfront Stadium. Game 2 was the fourth time the Reds have scored nine runs in a postseason game. It's the franchise's highest-scoring playoff game since Game 3 of the 1995 NLDS against the Dodgers, a game the Reds won, 10-1. The only other time Cincinnati scored exactly nine runs in a game was Game 1 of the 1919 World Series against the White Sox, which the Reds won, 9-1. The Giants were shut out in a postseason game for the first time since Game 4 of the 2000 NLDS against the Mets. San Francisco had just one hit in that game and lost, 4-0. Sunday marked the Reds' first playoff shutout since Game 1 of the 1990 World Series. Bumgarner lasted just 4 1/3 innings in Game 2. He's thrown 4 1/3 frames or fewer in three of his last five starts and four of his last seven. It's the shortest postseason start of his career, one out shorter than his start in Game 4 of the 2010 NLDS against the Phillies. Four runs and seven hits are also career postseason highs for the lefty. Jose Mijares became the fourth Giants reliever to allow three or more runs in a postseason game without getting an out. The last San Francisco pitcher to do that was Don Robinson in Game 3 of the 1987 NLCS against the Cardinals. Ryan Hanigan's three-RBI night in Game 2 followed up Brandon Phillips' three-RBI night in Game 1. This marked the first time in club history two players drove in three runs in back-to-back postseason games since the 1990 NLCS against the Pirates. Mariano Duncan drove in four runs in Game 3, and Chris Sabo drove in three in Game 4. A win in Game 3 would give the Reds their seventh postseason sweep, the most recent of which came in the 1995 NLDS against the Dodgers. The Reds also engineered sweeps in the World Series in 1990 (over the A's) and 1976 (over the Yankees). The Giants face their third postseason sweep in club history. They were swept by the Marlins in the 1997 NLDS and by the A's in the 1989 World Series.
