Aspiring participants can register online now at astros.com. The deadline to register is Wednesday, September 19 at 5 p.m. CT. Applicants are to complete the online form and submit a resume. Once registration is closed, a panel of judges will select the top 50 applicants to compete in the next round (Interview Round). The judges for the contest will be: Robert Boudwin aka Clutch the Rockets mascot, Junction Jack, Michael Kenny, formerly General Admission from the Astrodome and Houston Chronicle columnist Ken Hoffman.
The Interview Round will take place on September 24 and 25 at Minute Maid Park. Contestants will be asked to perform in a standard mascot costume, provided by the Astros, which will give them the opportunity to display their talents performing in a costume. Judges will select the top 10 performers, who will advance to the Interaction Round.
The Interaction Round will be held on Wednesday, September 26 at Minute Maid Park. Contestants will once again perform in a costume during this round. Videos of the final 10 performing in the Interaction Round will be posted onto the website for fans to vote on between September 28 - October 4. The combined voting of the fans and judges will determine the top four that will advance to the Final Round.
The Final Round will be held on October 9. Video of the final four contestant’s performances will also be posted online for fans to vote on between October 11-17. Final Round fan voting results will be combined with the judges voting to select the winner.
“This is another opportunity for us to engage with our fans, which is extremely important to us,” said Astros President and CEO George Postolos. “The participation in the Radio Apprentice Contest has been outstanding and we anticipate that our fans will enjoy and appreciate being a part of selecting our new mascot as well. This is fun for us and for our fans.”
