Nats agree to terms with 23 players

VIERA, Fla. -- The Nationals agreed to terms on 2009 contracts with 23 players on Saturday.

The position players to reach new deals were outfielders Roger Bernadina, Leonard Davis, Elijah Dukes and Justin Maxwell, infielders Kory Casto and Ian Desmond, catchers Jesus Flores, Luke Montz and Wil Nieves. Pitchers Luis Atilano, Collin Balester, Matt Chico, Tyler Clippard, Ross Detwiler, Marco Estrada, Joel Hanrahan, Mike Hinckley, John Lannan, Shairon Martis, Garrett Mock, Saul Rivera, Steven Shell and Terrell Young also agreed to terms.

Pitchers Jason Bergmann and Mike O'Connor, infielder Alberto Gonzalez, outfielders Lastings Milledge and Josh Willingham and third baseman Ryan Zimmerman have yet to sign contracts. Willingham and Zimmerman are arbitration-eligible.
